Although team India could not make it up to a great win, but that did not deter them from showing any less enthusiasm. They proved that winning or losing is all a part of the game.
Virat Kohli came out with many blunt confessions and that too with a smile on his face. He spoke to the journalists in a press conference yesterday.
India faced Pakistan with this mega clash and were announced clear favorites beforehand. Apparently, Indians residing in different parts of the world were cheering for the country’s win.
The quality of the team on paper, their dominance over Pakistan in ICC events and their position in the world rankings made people bet on India’s win with closed eyes.
However, India could not take the ICC Champions Trophy home as Pakistani team successfully took on their rivals with a great 338 runs.
Virat cited various reasons for their bad performance. India was shockingly weak in all the three departments. Virat Kohli was brutally honest while acknowledging the fact and also congratulated Pakistan on their win. He also lauded Pakistani batsman, Fakhar Zaman’s efforts.
Kohli also claimed that Indian team should not be ashamed of their performance. Instead they should be proud of their great efforts in the tournament. Indeed Hardik Pandya’s bowling under such great pressure was commendable.
“We can be very proud of that as a unit, and we leave here with our heads held high because we understand the kind of expectations and pressures we face as a team,”Kohli said. “Credit to everyone for standing up and showing that resilience and reaching the finals, and today we were outplayed in all departments.
“They had to earn their win. They made us make those mistakes because of the way they were bowling and the way they applied the pressure in the field, as well. And we have no hesitations or shame to admit that we could not play our best game today.”
Bhuvaneshwar Kumar too paid off for India and proved to be the only headache for the Pakistani batsmen.
Virat Kohli as a captain exhibited all the leadership qualities and a true spirit of sportsmanship when he praised his fellow team mates on their extremely good performance and also acknowledged the various loopholes in their game.
